The U.S. Forest Service announced on August 21 that it intends to begin revising the rules that govern where motorized vehicles can travel across National Forest lands. The agency said it will publish a Notice of Intent to prepare an environmental impact statement for amending the existing Travel Management Rule, known formally as 36 CFR 212.

If you run a machine for chores and recreation both, rugged-terrain tires will tempt you every time you shop. Riders in Whitewater, Wisconsin, will soon get an extra hour on the street. On Sept. 15, the Whitewater Common Council took up an amendment to Ordinance 2026-O-22, which governs Section 11.45 covering the operation of all-terrain vehicles and utility terrain vehicles in the city. Under the current rule, ATVs and UTVs are barred from city streets between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. The council moved to push that cutoff back, giving riders legal road access later into the night.

Riders gathered at the Jackson's Mill Volunteer Fire Department in West Virginia on Saturday for the inaugural Ride to Rescue ATV Ride, an event built to raise money for new emergency and rescue equipment. The morning started with the sound of ATV engines as local riders and community members turned out to support the department. Registration opened at 8 a.m., and the ride rolled out at 10 a.m.

Riders at the Gypsum City OHV Park south of Fort Dodge will soon have more ground to cover. The Iowa Natural Resources Commission has hired Dixon Construction of Correctionville to install a new bridge that will open the door to expanding the park's trail system into its southeast corner. The contract is worth $345,184, and the work is scheduled to be finished by Sept. 15, 2027.

The Horton City Commission has approved an ordinance that allows all-terrain vehicles to operate on city streets, roads, and alleys. The measure passed unanimously on second reading Monday evening.

The AMA U.S. ATV Motocross Team is back on top of the world. Zack Decker, Joel Hetrick and Max Lindquist swept all three motos at the FIM Quadcross of Nations in Dardon, France, going 1-2-1-2-1-2 to claim the United States' seventh title at the event.

The Trailhead ATV Resort in Boissevain, Virginia, near Bluefield, is under new ownership. The cabin and lodging company Buffalo Trail Cabins has taken over the property and plans to expand both the resort and its store in the coming months.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has committed $2.2 million to seven ATV and snowmobile projects statewide, with much of the funding concentrated in Clearfield, Elk, and Indiana counties. The grants were announced by the Shapiro Administration and are drawn from three sources: the ATV Management Restricted Account, the Snowmobile Management Restricted Account, and the Pennsylvania Recreational Trails Program.

Riders traveling between Howland and Lincoln, Maine, can once again make the trip on ATV trails after a summer marked by closures, dust complaints, landowner concerns, and a shut down bridge. Getting the connection back open took cooperation among ATV clubs, landowners, state officials, legislators, and the Maine Department of Transportation.

On our place, the quad earns its keep hauling feed and checking fence, and every kid who grows up around it wants a turn behind the handlebars. Before a young person ever thumbs the throttle, the single most important call you make is matching the machine to the rider. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is taking public comments on a proposed all-terrain vehicle trail system that would run roughly 510 miles across Carlton and St. Louis counties. The project comes from the Twig Area Trail Riders, and the DNR is collecting feedback through an Environmental Assessment Worksheet, the standard document used to study how a project affects the land and surrounding area.

Polaris has partnered with Minnesota’s 4-H program to expand youth ATV safety education, and they’re doing it by launching a new, interactive safety adventure available on CLOVER (4-H's online learning platform). The interactive safety adventure (video game) is dubbed Trailblazers and it is built around a basic tenet: learning safety should be as engaging and rewarding as actual adventures young riders dream about.

On our operation, the four-wheeler earns its keep every day. We scout fields, check cattle, and haul tools and small loads across ground a truck cannot reach. That same convenience carries real danger. ATVs and UTVs kill more than 700 people and send over 100,000 to emergency rooms in the United States each year, and on farms the worst of it falls on young riders. Most of these accidents follow predictable patterns.

Washburn County in northwest Wisconsin is set up for riders who want to spend a fall weekend chasing color on more than 100 miles of connected ATV and UTV trails. As the forests turn gold, orange, and red, the county's trail system links into the wider Northwest Wisconsin ATV network, giving trail riders, families, and riding crews plenty of room to explore before winter shuts things down.

Riders in Wisconsin Rapids may soon be legal on most city streets. The Common Council voted 5-3 on Sept. 15 to approve an amendment to the city's existing ATV/UTV ordinance. The change opens all city-owned roadways to off-road vehicles, with one exception. Roads that overlap with numbered state highways stay off limits.

Voters in Castleton, Vermont, will likely decide in March whether all-terrain vehicles can use town roads, and the select board is now working out exactly what the ballot will ask. The town clerk has certified a petition brought by riders, and the board has agreed to put the question before townspeople this spring.

If you own an ATV or UTV, a fight in Congress over tugboat emissions probably sounds like something you can ignore. But the latest battle over California Air Resources Board regulations reaches into a much bigger question about California’s ability to set emissions standards that are tougher than federal requirements.

For decades, the all-terrain vehicle meant a gasoline engine, a pull start or a key, and the familiar drone of a small motor working through mud, sand, and rock. That picture is changing as battery-electric powertrains move into the segment, and the change matters most for the people who use these machines to get work done. An electric motor delivers strong torque the instant you touch the throttle, runs quietly, produces no local emissions, and carries fewer moving parts than a combustion engine. For a rancher checking fence, a forester on a quiet trail, or a hunter who does not want to announce his arrival, those traits translate into real advantages.

If you've been hunting for another source of replacement ATV and UTV rubber, there's a new option in the pipeline. According to Meyer Distributing, the company has added The Carlstar Group to its product lineup through a new distribution partnership, expanding access to specialty tires and wheels for powersports and outdoor power equipment customers across North America.

Riders get two days of guided runs through northern Minnesota state forests, a banquet, and a shot at winning a CFMOTO side-by-side, according to ATV Minnesota (ATVAM).

SuperATV has acquired four aftermarket brands from Nivel's off-road vehicle portfolio: High Lifter, Snorkel Your ATV, Falcon Ridge, and Side By Side Stuff. UTV Guide's Jon Crowley reported the deal on Aug. 17, 2026, with financial terms undisclosed. For riders, nothing changes at checkout right now — existing websites and sales channels stay live through the transition.

The US Forest Service has announced that they are moving forward with revising travel management rules across the United States on National Forest lands. This is something that is metaphorically coming from President Trump’s desk - many news outlets are reporting it as such - when in reality this is something that the U.S. Forest Service has been working on being more forward-thinking and progressive in a world where motorized vehicles are no longer just gas-guzzling four-wheelers.

CFMOTO USA is headquartered in Plymouth, Minnesota. So, it might not come as a surprise to many that they are now the official side-by-side and ATV partner for their hometown NFL team, the Minnesota Vikings.

ATVs were originally born out of the necessity to accomplish work. To be able to cover “all terrains” no matter what the task demanded. This eventually led to the desire/need for even more utility. So, along came side-by-sides. Can-Am is returning that ethos in 2027 by adding even more practicality and utility to their Off-Road Defender XU and Outlander Pro models.

The lone new ATV that we are going to see next year from Arctic Cat is the Alterra 110 with an MSRP of $3,399. The Alterra 110 is meant to be for budding or aspiring ATV enthusiasts with parent-friendly controls, a tiny yet mighty 112cc engine, and a more palatable price tag that is sub-$4,000. The Alterra 110 was specifically made for riders who are 10 years of age or younger.

Yamaha is stopping in-house Side-by-Side production at its Newnan, Georgia plant after the 2026 model year, the company announced. This is not a full exit from the SxS category, but it does mark the end of building machines like the Viking, Wolverine, and YXZ1000R in-house at Yamaha Motor Manufacturing Corporation.

When the four-wheeler originally fell through thin ice back in 2018, the owner was fishing in 60 feet of water. Not only was the ATV consumed by the Green Mountain Reservoir, but a lot of other fishing gear as well:

Following the launch and subsequent positive reception of the Can-Am Outlander Electric, fully electric ATVs are taking the market by storm. The next entrant comes from Chinese manufacturer Loncin, which has its X-Wolf EV10 in the works.

Chinese manufacturer Bstabo has finally launched its first round of products available to consumers. The Rock and Hawk ATVs are fully electric machines with different purposes, though they share the same maximum power output of around 23 horsepower and a range estimated to be around 75 miles. In addition to debuting its first four-wheelers, Bstabo has also posted to its website what will be its first UTVs.

Year after year, time after time, we report on Can-Am parent company BRP bringing home medals for the Red Dot Design Awards. It's almost a formality at this point, but still exciting news for the brand nonetheless. This year, the Outlander MAX 6x6, Outlander Electric, and Defender HD11 all received acknowledgement from the prestigious organization.

Powersports manufacturer CFMoto is expanding its global reach with a new brand called GOES, which is slated to launch exclusively in the European market in the coming years. The new offshoot's lineup will piggyback on that of CFMoto's existing products, taking the framework and applying new bodywork and branding to differentiate the machines for the new markets.
