Honda Brings Back TRX250X & TRX90X for 2027
Honda is keeping its sport-ATV ladder intact for the 2027 model year, bringing back the entry-level TRX250X along with the TRX90X aimed at younger riders, both with essentially no mechanical changes. If you're shopping a first machine for a new rider in the family, or you just want a straightforward sport quad without chasing the latest redesign, the lineup stays familiar and the pricing stays reasonable.
TRX250X: An Entry Point for Riders 16 and Up
The TRX250X runs a 229cc air-cooled powerplant working through Honda's SportClutch system, aimed at newer riders aged 16 and up. The handlebar-mounted SportClutch lets a rider work a conventional clutch without stalling, so someone still learning to feather the throttle can build clutch control while experienced riders still get manual-clutch feel. That matters a lot when you're putting a less experienced rider on a machine for the first time.
Underneath, it rides on a lightweight steel double-cradle frame, with independent double-wishbones up front — Honda lists 5.9 inches of front travel — and a swingarm riding on a rear single shock. That's the kind of setup I'd want for trail duty and light recreational riding — enough suspension travel to soak up rough ground without the complexity or cost of a full race-bred machine. The steel double-cradle chassis also keeps weight manageable, which makes the quad easier to handle at low speeds and less intimidating for a newer rider working through tight spots.
"Whether a rider is climbing aboard an ATV for the first time or has been riding for years, we want the experience to be fun, rewarding and welcoming," said Colin Miller, Manager of Experiential Marketing at American Honda, in Honda's announcement of the returning models. "The TRX90X and TRX250X both can serve as entry points into the sport and share the qualities that Honda customers value, including predictable performance, easy operation and long-term dependability."
The only change for 2027 is cosmetic: a new Racing Blue colorway. MSRP lands at $5,549, a $150 bump over the 2026 model. For a carryover model, that's a modest increase, and it keeps the TRX250X squarely in entry-level sport territory rather than pushing it up against pricier, higher-performance machines.
TRX90X: Confidence-Builder for Young Riders
The TRX90X carries over completely unchanged and remains Honda's pick for young, inexperienced riders. Honda positions it as a machine for building skills and confidence, matching manageable performance with safety features. The company says its build quality, how it puts down power, and its easy operation "create a reassuring experience for riders and their supervisors."
When I've got a new rider learning the ropes, I'll take easy operation and predictable power over raw capability every time. A machine that doesn't surprise its rider is exactly what you want when the goal is building confidence and clean riding habits before stepping up to something faster. MSRP is $3,599, which keeps it accessible as a first sport quad for a family already running Honda gear.
Availability
Both 2027 models are set to reach dealers within the October–November timeframe. Full details are posted on the Honda Powersports website.
