Best Action Cameras of 2025 to Capture Your Rides

If There's No Video, Did You Really Do It?
Action cameras are the best way to capture and share your riding memories...
Action cameras exploded onto the scene several years ago and have remained an extremely cool way to capture the memories of your riding adventures. These small, lightweight cameras have completely changed the way video is captured with exceptional video quality, rugged housings and easy-to-use editing software. Just like cell phones, each year new technologies come along that improve these cameras.
Now action camera brands come and go faster than most of us can keep up with (remember the Garmin VIRB?), so we did our research and below you’ll find our top picks of the best action cameras from reputable brands.
Table of Contents
1. Editor's Choice: DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro
MSRP $349
The DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro delivers top-tier performance in a rugged, compact build—perfect for Powersports and outdoor enthusiasts. Whether you’re tearing up trails on your ATV, navigating rocky paths in a UTV, or cruising dunes in your side-by-side, this camera’s 1/1.3″ sensor and SuperNight mode capture stunning footage, even in low light. A great addition to your arsenal for night rides. (We would have loved this testing Kawasaki's 2025 Teryz KRX4 1000 Blackout Edition.)
Dual OLED touchscreens make framing and reviewing shots easy, even with gloves on, while 360° HorizonSteady stabilization ensures your footage stays rock-solid no matter how bumpy the ride. Waterproof to 20m and capable of handling extreme conditions, it’s built for the mud, dust, and splashes of off-road adventures. With up to 4 hours of battery life and the ability to pair seamlessly with DJI’s wireless microphones, it’s also great for vlogging or documenting your rides with crisp audio. While its max 4K resolution won’t outshine pricier models, its dynamic range and reliability make it a versatile, affordable alternative to the GoPro Hero 13 Black—ideal for capturing your next off-road adventure.
2. Best Accessories: GoPro HERO13
MSRP $399.99
The GoPro HERO13 Black stands out for its accessory ecosystem, making it a versatile option for riders looking to document their adventures. The new HB-Series Lenses—including Macro, Ultra Wide, Anamorphic, and Smart Motion Blur ND Filters (sold separately)—allows for a wide range of creative shooting options. The camera’s updated mount auto-detects which lens is attached and adjusts settings automatically, streamlining the setup process.
Magnetic Latch Mounts (also sold separately) add another layer of convenience, letting users quickly attach or remove the camera. Paired with the new Enduro Battery, which offers improved runtime for longer recording sessions, the HERO13 Black feels well-suited to anyone who spends extended time outdoors.
For riders, these accessories make it easy to tailor the camera to different environments, from capturing wide trails to zooming in on specific details. While the core camera features remain similar to the previous models, the focus on accessory compatibility makes this version especially appealing for those who prioritize customization and flexibility.
3. Most Well-Rounded Experience: Insta360 X4
MSRP $499.99
The Insta360 X4 is a capable and versatile 360-degree camera that appeals to creators looking for flexibility in capturing immersive content. With an upgraded 8K resolution for 360° video, it offers sharper visuals compared to its predecessor, the X3. Features like FlowState Stabilization and horizon lock ensure smooth footage, while the option to switch to single-lens 4K mode adds practicality for standard action shots.
While the X4 excels in capturing unique perspectives, it isn’t without trade-offs. Its 8K files require significant storage and processing power, and low-light performance remains average. Additionally, its price point and reliance on accessories like the invisible selfie stick may not suit casual users. However, for those invested in producing innovative, action-packed content, the X4 stands out as a robust and adaptable tool.
4. Best Deal: AKASO Brave 7 LE
MSRP $159.99
If you're looking to dive into action cameras without emptying your wallet, the AKASO Brave 7 LE is your go-to. Designed with beginners and budget-conscious users in mind, this camera delivers quality video and features that punch well above its price tag. Shoot in 4K30fps, snap 20MP photos, and enjoy smooth footage with its 6-axis stabilization—all while keeping things simple and affordable.
Its IPX7 weatherproof body is great for rain and splashes, and the included waterproof housing lets you dive up to 131FT. The dual screens make it easy to frame your shots, whether you're working or just capturing memories for the feed. Sure, it doesn’t have 4K60fps or pro-level low-light performance, but for the price, it’s a solid performer packed with accessories—including two batteries and endless mounts—that make it an unbeatable value for first-timers.
5. Best All-Around for Vlogging: Insta360 Go 3 64GB
MSRP $399.99
If you're really on the go, the Insta360 Go 3 is a game-changer for capturing high-quality footage without the bulk of traditional action cameras. Weighing just 35g (1.2oz), it's the world's smallest action camera, making it incredibly portable and perfect for any adventure. The Go 3 delivers 2.7K video, allowing you to capture crisp, immersive POV shots without any hassle. Its magnetic mounting system and included accessories give you endless creative angles, making it perfect for hands-free filming. The camera’s battery life lasts up to 45 minutes when used alone, or up to 170 minutes with the Action Pod, which also provides a handy flip-up touchscreen for easy control and live preview.
FlowState stabilization ensures your footage is smooth, with gimbal-like performance and 360-degree horizon leveling. Waterproof up to 16ft (5m), the Go 3 is tough enough for most adventures, while the Action Pod is splashproof (IPX4). With AI-powered editing tools in the Insta360 app, you can quickly turn your footage into polished content. Whether you’re vlogging, capturing action shots, or creating unique perspectives, the Insta360 Go 3 offers unbeatable portability, solid performance, and a user-friendly experience, all without breaking the bank.
How do you mount an action camera to your ATV or UTV?
Most action cameras offer accessory mounting solutions. Smaller clamps can be hooked up to your ATV's rack and larger ones can be secured to a UTV's ROPS. Perhaps the simplest solution, though, are adhesive mounts that you can stick on your helmet or even the plastic of your ATV or UTV. These mounting accessories can usually be purchased as a package and some cameras will come with everything you need.
