Best quad for the money!
By Shades moto (I am an Owner) on Sep 02, 2016The 300ex in general is one of the best sport quads ever made. But for the money (a good used one is 1200-2000 bucks) it's the best you can buy! The suspension is really good and has preload adjustments that are very easy to work. I'm 180lbs naked so with gear I'm around 200 and I ride on the 4/5 ... setting. I got the bike when I was 14 and weighed 160-165 lbs and rode on the 3 setting. Most avg size males will find the 4 setting the best. But I did motocross or jumped a lot I would use 5. This bike has about 7inches of travel in the front and about 8 in the rear. That doesn't seem like much compared to today's 400-450 class bikes but since the 300ex full of oil and full only weighs 390lbs (377 dry) it is more than adequate for trail riding and fast riding/local level racing. The front soaks up bumps with ease but doesn't dive into corners and remains very stable at high speeds. And the back end is good at not bottoming out but in a turn with bumps it will hop a lil. This isn't that bad though and pretty much all live rear axle sport quads handle in the rear like that. The steering is also really good it gives nice positive feedback and you have a decent amount of steering angle to work with. One thing I will say about the front end is that this bike is very twitchy and responsive. Clipping a rock with only one tire can be a bit nerve racking if your not paying attention and holding on tight. These bikes are also very stable on jumps. Honda makes some of the best balanced sport quads on the market. Now as for the motor and transmission, the 300ex has a reputation for reliability. The 282cc 4valve soho air cooled single is bulletproof! The case does say 281but it's actually 282 cc. These motors just require regular oil changes and about every 100hrs you have to reset the valves. Doing that is easy also. These motors come from the factory very conservatively tuned so getting an exhaust and a k+n plus jetting the carb is a must! I of course have mine setup like this and it is noticeably faster than stock. My 300ex is an 01 but all 300exs were built identically from 1993-2006 and in 2006 all they did was change the plastics and headlight. I ride very hard I head thequadnow for 4seasons and I just replaced the original axle bearings and did maintenance. They make 22.1hp stock mine with mods makes 26.5 and stock rev limiter and stock gearing lets this quad have a topspeed of 59mph.

Great
By Jordan (I am an Owner) on Jul 22, 2012perfomanc eon these bike are amazing!everyone in my family has had 300ex at somepoint in there lifes these are the toughest sport bike out there on the market today!I havent quite had mine a year but its great the only thing that i would have changed on these bikes is the location of the head light ... because the guy who owned it before me did and ruined the headlight i am glad to see that they have changed the location on the newer models. I never had a problem with mine till just the other day the stator went in it which is very uncommon i have called every dealer in three provinces and they asked if i was sure it was the stator but i guess a bad luck of the draw but overall a great bike!!
