How To Do Social Distancing the Right Way: ATV Riding
With much of the world stuck at home and getting very bored with their surroundings, we’ve come to appreciate even more our favorite form of social distancing – taking ATVs and UTVs out for a rip.
While chilling on the couch and watching Netflix is fun for a little while, sometimes you just need to go outside and get a little fresh air. And since we aren’t too keen on being in close proximity with anybody outside of our home base right now, walking the city streets isn’t going to cut it. Luckily, hopping on your ATV and going for a ride will definitely keep you a safe distance from anybody else. You shouldn’t be following anybody that close anyway.
If you are lucky enough to have your own property to ride on, why are you even looking at a screen right now? Get outside right now! But even if you don’t have access to your own riding area, there are plenty of public trails and private ATV/UTV facilities that are open for business. You won’t want to carpool with your regular riding buddies, but you can take your spouse or kids out for a fantastic day of mud, sand or hard-pack trail exploring.
Speaking of kids, they tend to be drawn to their screens at the best of times. But with schools closed and the inability to go and hang out with their friends, some of your kids are turning into screen zombies at this very moment. So go and shut off the WiFi and tell them it’s not working right now. Then toss them a helmet and go out and have a killer time together in your UTV. And if our kids have never been into the off-road lifestyle, this is as good a time as any to get them interested. After all, after being stuck inside for a few days, a little wind in their faces will feel pretty darn great.
What kid wouldn’t rather be doing this rather than being stuck inside and unable to hang out with their friends?
If your kids have never ridden an ATV before, now would be a good time to get them to take an online safety course. The ATV Safety Institute website has loads of information on getting young riders started. You can check that out right here.
If you don’t happen to have anybody living with you, why not call up a friend or two and go for a ride. We’d suggest keeping a safe distance, but you can still get out and ride your ATVs together. You’ll just have to avoid the high-fives and fist bumps.
Yes, social distancing is a bit of a pain for most people. But if you happen to have access to an ATV or UTV, social distancing takes on a whole new meaning. Getting away from everybody and exploring life off-road might be just what the doctor ordered. Just bring a bottle of hand sanitizer and a roll of TP along with you.
