Off-Road Trails: New York

Encompassing 750 acres, Bear Run ATV Park has beginner and moderately challenging trails that are ready for anyone to explore. The property is surrounded by a long loop trail, and there are also some mud pits for all riders to enjoy. Interested in more than just off-roading? This is a great park for other activities, too, including: paddle boating, kayaking, swimming, playing tennis, and of course taking a ride on the 1,400' long zip line! Camping and lodging at the park is made easy with 80 RV sites, along with fully equipped cabins available for rent. Tent spaces are also available for your enjoyment.

With 2,000 acres of riding to enjoy, the private Hilltown Riders OHV Club is a great place to stop and enjoy a weekend full of riding. You must be a member (or obtain a guest pass from a member) to join this club and ride on the land - contact information is available on their website. Once you obtain your membership, you'll be able to enjoy over 20 miles of marked trails on the property. Plus, you'll be invited to the events that the club hosts throughout the year. The adjacent town of Averill Park doesn't have too many supplies, so count on getting everything from nearby Albany. Remember, pack it in, pack it out!

In cooperation between the county and private landowners in the area, the Tug Hill Adirondacks ATV Association was formed. The system already encompasses about 600 miles of trails, and there are more planned for the future. To ride on the trails, you must have a trail permit and a registered/insured vehicle. This is a popular area among riders with multiple events throughout the year. Plus, if you can get up here in the fall, the tree colors are absolutely stunning on the trails.

Some parks in New York are just great, family-fun areas. Such is the case with Mettowee Off Road Extreme Park. With over 120 acres of wooded trails, rock gardens, and mud bogs, this off-road park is perfect for family fun off-road adventures. If the mud gets too thick on your vehicle, consider using the on-site pressure washers to get everything off before you leave the grounds. The nearby town of Whitehall has supplies for all of your camping needs, and the park actually has camping spots available for you to enjoy.

Developed and run by a family who also runs a full time farm, Tall Pines ATV Park is a popular place among riders who want a family-friendly atmosphere and great ATV or Side-by-Side driving experience. In total, about 60 miles of wooded trails are present at this park, and the terrain generally consists of rocky trails, muddy areas, and some wide open spots. The nearby town of Andover is pretty small, so be sure to bring your supplies with you to the trails. There are cabins available to rent on site or you can bring your own RV or tent and use the general camping areas.

Foothills is a privately owned club park that has 110 miles of trails that wind through heavily wooded areas, some grassy knolls and the occasional mud hole. The park is very scenic with some challenging trails that will appease the more experienced, but still allow the novices to build their skill sets. There are annual and family memberships available, but don’t worry - day passes are readily available. Make sure your machine is registered with the state and that you carry insurance.
