Can-Am Launches All-New Defender HD11 For 2026
Can-Am has updated its trusty Defender side-by-side for the 2026 model year with substantial changes and improvements that should make for a much better machine all-around. Included in this are an all-new engine, upgraded suspension, and a whole slew of extra tech.
One of the highlights of the Defender HD11 is an all-new 999cc inline three-cylinder Rotax ACE engine. It makes 95 horsepower and 70 lb-ft of torque, all of which is routed through an all-new continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine has three selectable power modes: Normal, Work, and Sport.
There's also a new intake system for improved engine performance, plus an improved cooling system for both the engine and passengers. HVAC is reportedly improved, with a new three-knob system, which should make the Defender even better for work use.
Can-Am also included the brand's new Quick-4Lok automatically locking front differential on the Defender XT, while other trims (Limited, Lone Star, X mr) have an automatic, electronically controlled Smart-Lok front diff. All models get a massive 11.9-gallon fuel tank as well.
On the suspension front, there's a new setup with 50% larger arched double A-arms for improved durability. Can-A also included double-bonded bushings for reduced maintenance and a quieter ride. The Defender HD11 stands 65 inches wide and boasts improved roll over protection structures (ROPS) versus the outgoing model.
Ground clearance is a great 15 inches and suspension travel is 12 inches both front and rear. Can-Am also worked to reduce the turning radius for improved maneuverability. As for brakes, Can-Am put 262mm front rotors up front with 32mm hydraulic twin piston calipers.
Inside the cabin, Can-Am worked to make the HD11 a better, nicer place to spend time. It has a reported 8% more legroom than the next closest competitor, and Can-Am equips the machine with a quick-tilt steering wheel. There's also a 10.25-inch touchscreen with a built-in backup camera and GPS system, and it can also connect with a phone. There's WiFi connectivity built in, too.
Up front the new HD11 has new LED headlights with 45% more output than the previous model's lights, and the new LED rear lights include backup lights that turn on when the vehicle is in reverse.
The new Can-Am Defender HD11 is available now, and more information can be found on can-am.brp.com.
